I use to laugh when people would tell me that they craved a green smoothie. I could understand craving chocolate or coffee (as I am a total addict), but to crave something healthy… let alone veggies?!?! So for all of you new to the world of smoothies, veggies, and healthy eating in general… I realize you are going to think I am a lunatic to say that I actually CRAVE a green smoothie every morning! I have found that once I detoxed from all the sugary processed food and started feeding my body lots of fresh vegetables, I felt amazing. I have more energy, clarity of mind, less stress and in general just feel good. Once you get a taste of how good your body feels… you want more! And next thing you know you become a crazy woman like me who actually wakes up craving a vegetable smoothie! I have seen this happen in children as well as adults. My son, for example, has been having a green smoothie every morning since he could drink one down. He is now 2 years old and when I ask him what he wants for breakfast he adds…”smoothie please” and gulps at least one cup down!
This recipe is actually my personal favorite breakfast smoothie. I love the strawberry pineapple combo. I also usually add some ginger to it to give it an extra zing!
Favorite Breakfast Smoothie (with Kale and Carrot)
Add the following ingredients into your blender (I use a Vitamix) in the order listed below:
- 1 banana
- 1 apple
- 2 handfuls of Kale (about 2 cups)
- 1 carrot
- 1 handful of frozen pineapple (about 1 cup)
- 1 handful of frozen strawberries (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup of almond milk (rice or cow would work too)
- 1 handful of ice
Blend on high for 30 sec or until smooth.
